On Friday, July 11, Plein Air Easton! artists will be seen painting and photographing Cambridge. Plein Air Easton! , a week-long juried competition held principally in Easton, is adding a pre-event event in Cambridge this year. This is the First Annual Cambridge Pre-Competition Paint Out.
Artists will station themselves around Cambridge plein air (French for “in the open air”) to capture the dramatic water views, the handsome historic buildings, the charming homes, and other eye-catching features of Cambridge. The public is welcome and encouraged to come out and watch the artists work.
Members of the Wednesday Morning Artists will be available starting at 6 a.m.to greet the competition artists and to answer their questions during the day. A light breakfast is being provided by Cambridge Main Street at Elliott’s Baking Company. The Dorchester Center for the Arts is providing respite and restrooms for the artists. Snappers Waterfront Café is providing free lunches for the artists and will host the “wet paint” sale from noon to 2 p.m.that will follow the morning’s painting and photography.
Plein Air Easton! is the largest juried plein air painting competition in the United States. Now in its 10th year, it draws artists and patrons from all over the United States and beyond. It runs from July 12 to 20 and includes a quick draw competition, lectures, workshops, demonstrations, and entertainment. Find more information at PleinAirEaston.com.
