Dear First District,
At this late juncture in the election season, I find it appropriate and fitting to acknowledge and take stock of how far I have come in accomplishing what I set out to do with my candidacy in the race for the 1st District of Maryland US Congressional seat.
First and foremost, I was inspired to remind my generation that we are inherently our government, and that in these challenging times we have an obligation, now more than ever, to get involved with bringing positive renewal to our country.
Having raised awareness and made some leaps toward this goal, I hereby withdraw my candidacy from this race.
My inspiration to run for office was to demonstrate specifically that anyone who has an idea or vision or courage to speak out about an issue can enter the dialogue and find companions all around them, as I did.
In the short period of my campaign, I was amazed at the amount of support and enthusiasm I received by my community. I was featured in numerous newspapers as well as online articles, and even had a campaign logo design donated–all through the efforts of individuals who believed in me and were willing to help. This was all accomplished on a campaign budget of $0.
In the near future, I am very excited about focusing on local Chestertown issues and creating enthusiasm for a new generation of entrepreneurs to focus on building businesses here. I am currently developing the idea of holding structured forums and discussions at Evergrain and around the county.
One of the most gratifying effects of the experience of running for US Congress is that it has brought tremendous interest and lively conversations to Evergrain.
To me, the best way to build momentum for participation in politics is through peers, colleagues, neighbors and friends.
I am proud that my entry into this race has helped generate discussion and I hope that in some small way, it has encouraged more people to let their voice be heard.
