The “Splendor of the Organ” with Marc Cheban on Sunday, September 22 kicks off the 2013 – 2014 Concert Series at Christ Church Easton. Cheban has delighted audiences with classical organ literature, orchestral transcriptions, and whimsical compositions for more than thirty years. Concert tours and performances have led Marc through Western Europe to the White House, and a variety of accompaniments to major silent films. An active “Theatre Organist” during college, he played every Friday evening at the historic Landsdowne Theatre near Philadelphia. Presently, Marc is a frequent recitalist on the renowned Ballroom Organ at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and is a traveling artist for Rogers Organ Company. The 4:00 PM concert will be held in the Church Sanctuary located at 111 S. Harrison Street in the Town of Easton.
Wes Lockfaw, the Director of Music at Christ Church, and the Music Minsistry have created a concert series featuring a wide range of highly acclaimed international, national, and regional artists. “We believe that all music is a gift from God to be celebrated and shared. Our Music Ministry is a way of sharing the fellowship of Christ Church with our community”, said Lockfaw. Eight diverse, high-quality musical performances have been scheduled. From September 2013 through April 2014, a free two-hour musical journey each month will be offered to the public.
In addition to “Splendor of the Organ”, the concert series includes: The Harp in History and Music with harpist and award-winning Classical Music Host Kara Dahl Russell; Dixieland and Beyond featuring the Clipper City Brass Quintet; “The Jesse Tree” with Eya Ensemble; Terra Voce with Cellist Andrew Gabbert and flautist Elizabeth Brightbill; A Tea Party with The Annapolis Baroque Ensemble; Georgiann Gibson and Friends; and The Crucifixion with the Christ Church Choir and Orchestra.
The Christ Church Concert Series, now in its third year, is made possible primarily through the voluntary contributions of its patrons. For more information, please visit www.christchurcheaston.org or call 410-822-2677.
