The Talbot Community showed its support for one of its own over the weekend. Brightwell Brasserie hosted an all-day, into the night fundraising event for Molly Keegan, the 34 year old mother of three and co-owner of the Brasserie who recently suffered significant injuries in a car accident. Molly is presently in Georgia for rehabilitation, but that didn’t stop her friends and family from throwing a big bash to raise money to help the family through this difficult time.
From Tin Fish and the Sunny Isles Blues Band, The Zen Dogs, Kentavius Jones, Jeff Washington to Ryful, bands played all afternoon and into the night. Oysters were shucked by the dozen, and spicy shrimp, cheesy sliders and more were cooked over outdoor BBQ stations. In spite of the light rain spotting throughout the evening, Talbot County friends and strangers stopped in to pitch in to help this young family.
With huge silent and live auctions, offering everything from local art and faraway vacation rentals to kayaks, a trip to New York City to a pile of books from the library, it was evident that the organizers found support in every corner of Talbot County. The crowd favorite was a weekend in Telluride, CO, which brought $2000 at the live auction.

Actually, the live auction favorite was An Evening with Kentavius Jones — Acoustic Entertaining in Your Home, which was the last item. After lengthy and very lively bidding between two determined ladies, “KJ” finally was won for no less than $3100! The next big item was the reverse auction — a special fund to provide the Keegan family with a crop share from a local orchard, portrait photography, and child care — which raised $2450 in donations ranging from $600 to $50 from dozens of people in the the crowd. Molly’s Army — which included Brasserie employees and many friends of the family, did an amazing job making this event such a success … We are all very fortunate to live in a community where people will give and do so much to help others.
