Don’t miss the Academy Art Museum’s 2015 Craft Show “Blow Away.” This event includes:
Preview Party – Friday, October 16, 6 – 9 p.m.
Craft Show – Saturday, October 17, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. & Sunday, October 18, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
All events will be held at the Academy Art Museum & Waterfowl Armory, 106 South Street, Easton, MD
A favorite Talbot County Chef will cater the Craft Show’s Preview Party this year. To sweeten the evening, tasting stations featuring local beer, wine, and spirits will be set up throughout the Museum and the Waterfowl Building. The coveted show awards will be given to the artists at the party between 5 6 and 7 p.m.
Demonstrations
On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a rare opportunity to experience the science, art, and magic of glass blowing. Award-winning glass blowing artists Julia & Robin Rogers, owners of the Nomadic Glass Studio, will create their exquisite art form in their mobile glass studio inside the Museum courtyard. Local mosaic artist Sue Stockman will also be demonstrating her mosaics inside the Waterfowl Building. Attendees will be invited to participate in the creation of a Showpiece Mosaic.
Little Crafters
Glass blowing techniques have inspired some great contemporary artists. This year’s Littlest Crafters will look at the work of Dale Chihuly, who creates gorgeous, colorful, undulating works in glass. Children will work with Shrinky Dinks, thin transparent sheets of plastic. They will cut out interesting shapes and decorate them with colored Sharpies. They will then “bake” them in a toaster oven for a few seconds. As the plastic sheets heat up, they curl into beautiful shapes. After they cool down, students will use a hot glue gun to fuse pieces together to create sculptures.
The Craft Show is one of the major fundraisers for the Museum and an easy way to support its many community-based programs for all ages.
Tickets for the show on Saturday or Sunday are $10 for Museum members and $12 for non-members and will be on sale at the door. For more information about this event, visit academycraftshow.org or call 410-822-2787.
