Volunteers and staff of Crossroads Community are busy preparing for an encore of their Flying Pig Roast, which debuted last year as the organization’s signature fundraiser. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 5th, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Piney Point Farm in
Centreville. Tickets are $55 each or $100 per couple.
The Flying Pig Roast’s theme is “Defying the Odds,” signifying the challenges often faced by Crossroads Community clients. The organization provides mental health recovery resources for residents of Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot and Dorchester counties.
Proceeds this year will support a special fund for its clients’ dental services, which often are not covered by other medical assistance. Dentists Neil Brayton of Chestertown and Thomas Downs of Centreville will be honored during the event for providing significant discounts on dental work for Crossroads Community clients.
More than just a picnic, according to event chair Mary Lou Pagella, guests will be treated to an upscale catered pig roast with all the trimmings. Entertainment is to be provided by the Bay Country Gentlemen, a bluegrass group from Queen Anne’s County.
The Flying Pig Roast takes place this year on the grounds of Piney Point Farm, the home of Lea Brooks, who has donated the use of her Chester River-front property for the occasion. Brooks is a former Crossroads Community board member and longtime patron of the organization.
Tables will be set up beneath tents in case of inclement weather. A special package, complete with drinks and appetizers, is available for businesses or individuals wishing to purchase full tables of eight at the event.
Both silent and live auctions will be offered to give picnickers an opportunity to support Crossroads Community even further. A wide variety of auction items has been donated, including a “Day in the Life of a Waterman” package complete with breakfast and lunch, a handmade mosaic table created and donated by Brooks, an original painting by artist Marcy Dunn Ramsey and more.
Early sponsorship has been provided by CNB and Chester River Hospital Center, both returning sponsors from last year’s event. Additional Flying Pig Roast sponsors include Triton Wealth Management, American Legion Jeff Davis Post 18, Peoples Bank of Kent County, T.R. Klein & Company and Trionfo Builders, Inc.
Pagella expressed her appreciation to Brooks and the other donors, sponsors and volunteers who are working together to ensure the Pig Roast’s encore flight is even more successful than its debut.
Flying Pig Roast tickets are available at TicketLeap.com or through the Crossroads Community website, www.ccinconline.com. Those wishing to purchase a table package may call 410-758-3050 for more information or to reserve.
