From the traditional tour of decorated historic homes to a new “Santa Dash” start to the Christmas Parade down Talbot Street, activities for all ages are in the works for this year’s 33rd annual Christmas in St. Michaels weekend, set for December 13th-15th.
Recently announced grant recipients benefitting from proceeds of the 2019 weekend will include 28 Bay Hundred nonprofit organizations. Family services programs include CarePacks of Talbot County at the Perkins Family YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, Mid-Shore Pro Bono, St. Michaels Community Center Food Support Program and Talbot Community Connections.
Education and child development programs receiving grants will be: Back to School Project at Christ Church, Character Counts, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, Classic Car Museum, Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers (St. Michaels site); Imagination Library of Talbot County and Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore. Also, Phillips Wharf Environmental Center, Sink or Swim (SOS), St. Michaels After School Help (SMASH), St. Michaels Destination Imagination, St. Michaels Little League, St. Michaels Middle/High School Musical Theater Program and the Tilghman Area Youth Association.
Community enhancements programs to be funded are: Bay Hundred Community Volunteers, Maryland Community for Life Talbot, National Night Out – St. Michaels/Bay Hundred; St. Michaels Farmers Market, St. Michaels Fireworks Fund, St. Michaels Middle/High School After-Prom, St. Michaels Museum and the St. Michaels Branch of the Talbot County Free Library.
Several of this year’s Christmas in St. Michaels events will carry out a special “Santa” theme, including a Santa costumed fun run to kick off the colorful Christmas parade, a Breakfast with Santa for families and a Santa’s Wonderland location, especially designed with games, crafts and a Secret Santa Shop for young children. Christmas in St. Michaels has raised over $1.4 million since 1986 to help fund nonprofits serving the Bay Hundred area.
