The 2015 Local Color Art Show and Competition, a popular event sponsored by The Working Artists Forum (WAF), opened from July 17th-19th at the Tidewater Inn in Easton. Running in conjunction with The Plein Air Easton Art Festival, Local Color attracted large crowds and showcased paintings by 43 accomplished artists representing the Delmarva Peninsula. The show judge this year was John Brandon Sills, Plein Air Easton’s 2014 Grand Prize winner. Participating artists were juried in by Tim Bell, PAE’s 2014 second place winner.
Local Color’s Best in Show award this year went to Carole Boggeman-Peirson for her painting, “Wild About Flowers.” Awards of Excellence were given to Angela Herbert-Hodges, Mary Ellen Mabe, and Barbara Zuehlke. Honorable Mentions went to Robert Manning, Nancy Galvin and Scot Dolby.
Throughout the weekend, five well attended demonstrations were given by award winners of Plein Air Easton’s 2014 Competition, including John Brandon Sills, Tim Bell, Hiu Lai Chong, Garin Baker and Zufar Bikbov. During the show, a number of Local Color artists headed to the streets around the Tidewater Inn to paint in plein air. Among those to receive PAE Quick Draw awards on Saturday and Sunday were Dennis Young and Betty Huang, whose paintings were sold right off their easels to eager art lovers.
Proceeds from Local Color help to fund The Working Artists Forum’s educational program for elementary school art classes in five eastern shore counties.
WAF is an non-profit organization consisting of painters working in one or more medium, who meet monthly at The Academy Art Museum in Easton. To learn more about The Working Artists Forum, their website may be viewed at www.workingartistsforum.com.
