Bark in the Park, the Mid-Shore’s top dog event, is right around the corner! Idlewild Park in Easton becomes Dog Central on October 13, 8 a.m. ‘til noon—rain or shine. This well-loved fun family festival draws pet lovers—with or without a pet—from Talbot County and beyond.
First up is a timed 5K fun run/walk—sponsored by Tri Cycle and Run—along Easton’s Rails to Trails. Next is the Blessing of the Animals and the singing of the national anthem by local students, followed by the Homecoming Parade (Dog Walk), sponsored by Hair O’ the Dog. Also on tap: The PAWrade of adoptable dogs, Fun and Fab Dog Show, Costume Contest, and activities for kids. A Doggie Spa is being sponsored by Kevertin Pet Resort. Plus there’s a fastest-recall event, agility course, music, raffles, food and more. It all adds up to a celebration of the animals and Talbot Humane’s dedication to their well-being. Thanks to supporters of the shelter, almost 8,000 animals have been placed into new homes, reunited with owners, or rehabilitated at Talbot Humane since 2010.
For a taste of Bark in the Park, we asked Talbot Humane volunteer Marge Coyman to share some thoughts:
“As a volunteer dog walker for Talbot Humane, I have had the privilege of escorting shelter dogs to Bark in the Park for the last few years. I am always totally impressed by how the dogs behave around so many other dogs and humans. They show excitement and interest but seem to blend in well.
I love it when dogs come in costume. I’m not sure how the dogs feel, but it shows the owners’ creativity. I also enjoy the special events in the ring, where dogs are showcased for behavior and attributes.
Bark in the Park is a wonderful opportunity for dog owners to bring their pups and get together with others and just have a fun day. It’s an important fundraising event for Talbot Humane that showcases shelter and rescue dogs in hopes of finding their ‘furrever’ home.
Dress comfortably, bring your dog on a lead where you have good control, participate in the fun events, enjoy some great food, support a worthwhile cause, and just have a great day!”
