St. Michaels Art League Presents: Drawing and Painting Birds and Boats of the Chesapeake with Willie Crockett, May 4, 5, and 6 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Choptank Electric Cooperative, 1118 S. Talbot St., St. Michaels, MD 21663

Fee: members $180; non-members $220

Workshop Description: This 3 day workshop will focus on drawing and painting work boats, and birds (particularly ducks and geese) of the Chesapeake Bay. Students will learn what to look for in understanding the basic components of boats and also learn how to draw birds at rest and in flight. An adept instructor, Willie is able to transform a seemingly difficult process of drawing these objects into a clear step by step process. And finally, students will use these skills to create a painting of the Chesapeake in watercolor.

About the artist: Born and raised on Tangier Island, Willie Crockett embodies a unique waterman’s perspective of the Chesapeake Bay environ. His unique perspective is expressed through matchless watercolor and oil works. Best known for his wildlife art, Willie transmits to his paintings an ever fresh view of the greater Chesapeake Bay, its wildfowl, the marsh and boats and docks for which he is so well known.

His down home manner, wit, and cache of stories never fails to engage students in a total Chesapeake painting experience. View his work at www.williecrockett.com
