The Affordable Housing Coalition of Talbot County has appointed local architect Margaret Garey to oversee their Joint Opportunities Initiative (JOI) in Easton’s East End
Ms. Garey will work with property owners in the 4-block area bordered by South Lane, Higgins, Talbot and Aurora streets who are planning to repair or renovate their homes. The intent of the not-for-profit Coalition’s pilot project is to support and encourage property owners in multiple ways to revitalize their community which was recently identified as of serious historic importance.
The Project Manager will guide owners through permitting and inspection activities and help them research possible grants for specific improvements. Under the Town of Easton’s Ordinance 594, the permit and inspection process will be accelerated, municipal fees will be waived and property taxes on improvements will be relieved for seven years.
A Technical Assistance Grant from Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development funds Ms. Garey’s position. The Affordable Housing Coalition, comprised of private citizens, has a twelve-year history of advocating for affordable housing in Talbot County and its towns. The JOI is a Smart Growth, anti-sprawl tool that creates more sustainable neighborhoods. For more information, email [email protected].
