Easton High School staff developed the Advanced Placement (AP) Summer Academy initiative, as a mentoring program to help address the needs of rising AP students. The goal of the initiative is to help students successfully transition into AP courses. Development of this initiative resulted after EHS staff members reviewed current and past advanced placement data and determined that the majority of student concerns stem from a lack of understanding regarding AP course expectations.
The focus of the program is to promote appropriate supportive relationships between students, peer mentors, and the Easton High School staff. Teachers from each AP content area reviewed procedures, expectations, and navigation strategies for AP course success. Students learned prerequisite academic structures and expectations, gained exposure to course materials, and reviewed time management skills.
