What is National Trails Day?
National Trails Day is a celebration of America’s great trail system. This special day resulted from past President Ronald Reagan’s Commission on Americans Outdoors, which recommended that all Americans should have access to a walking trail. Since 1993, the American Hiking Society has celebrated this country-wide initiative with a commemorative National Trails Day held each year on the first Saturday of June. National Trails Day is meant to inspire the public to get outdoors and utilize our country’s beautiful and treasured lands by way of trail.
June 4, 2011 marks the country’s 18th annual National Trails Day! Celebrate with ESLC by taking a hike in the woods of the beautiful Lynch Preserve.
Over the past five months, ESLC has worked with more than thirty volunteers to construct almost two miles of trail at the Lynch Preserve. The trail is made up of diverse settings and truly allows users to take in the incredible natural environment around them. Hikers can expect to meander through deep forest nooks, stumble upon gorgeous views of the Choptank River, and stroll along spacious paths adorned by a mosaic of tall trees on either side.
The Lynch Preserve is located at the intersection of Tall Tree Lane and Robins Creek Road in Preston, MD. Click here for directions.
