After a long career in both the public and private sectors, Maureen Curry has retired but decided she has more to give the community she loves, which is why she is running for her old seat on the Easton Town Council representing Ward One.
She began her career with the Town of Easton in 1994 when she was named Easton’s first Main Street Manager. Maureen then went to work for Easton Utilities as their director of corporate communications, prior to being elected to the Easton Town Council in 2003, Maureen served on the Town Council until 2008 when she was appointed economic development director for Easton. In 2010 she successfully orchestrated the year-long celebration of Easton’s 200th birthday.
Her unmatched experience is what makes Maureen an outstanding candidate for the Easton Town Council. She has served her community through volunteering for 30 years. Maureen is a past board member for Talbot Hospice Foundation, Waterfowl Festival, Talbot Chamber of Commerce and the American Heart Association. She received the Director’s Service Award from the Rotary Club of Easton in 2010 and was named 2012 Mid-Shore Woman of the Year by the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay. She recently received the District Governor’s Service Award for Rotary District 7630.
“I believe that a strong community is its greatest asset.” Easton is fortunate to have many resources, such as a thriving downtown, amazing arts, great schools, a good healthcare system, an incredible public utility, and an outstanding police department, just to name a few. As your Council Member I will seek to support these many resources to ensure their viability moving forward,” states Curry.
Maureen’s priorities are to maintain the small town feel of Easton while providing citizens with all the amenities they deserve. Safety is of the utmost importance to Maureen, and she wants everyone who lives in Easton to feel safe and secure. Transparency and accountability are two of the cornerstones on her campaign. She believes that every citizen should have access to their elected officials and a full understanding of how their local government works.
The Town of Easton election is Tuesday, May 2 and all voting will take place at the Easton Volunteer Fire Department, 315 Leonard Rieck Drive. If you are unable to vote in person, you may request an absentee ballot by calling Easton Town Hall at 410-822-2525.
