Rowland S. Holsinger, D.D.S., of Denton, will be the dental lead for Maryland’s Eastern Shore Mission of Mercy, (MOM), a two-day full service dental clinic, providing free care for adults on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. The event will be held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, 500 Glen Avenue, Salisbury, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. All patients must be 18-years-old or older, and will be seen on a first come, first served basis; no appointments are necessary. This event is open to anyone regardless of where they reside.
In 2013, Dr. Holsinger served as the dental lead for the first-ever Eastern Shore Mission of Mercy event. He was joined by his practice partner and wife Patricia E. Higgins, D.D.S., who served with a corps of 1,521 volunteers. In all, 1,000 patients were provided dental services, which equaled $1.1 million of donated services.
“At Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins we are passionate about providing care to our patients, so this event is especially rewarding for us,” says Dr. Holsinger. “It is an overwhelmingly humble experience to serve alongside other dental professionals and volunteers to provide care to those who need it the most, ” he adds.
All dental services will be provided by Maryland licensed dentists and hygienists who donate their services for this event. Services include extractions, restoration (fillings) and cleanings focusing on the patients’ most urgent area of concern.
In July 2000, the Virginia Dental Health Foundation launched the Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project. The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in conjunction with the Virginia Dental Association and the Virginia Health Care Foundation formed a partnership to provide dental care for the uninsured and underserved populations of Virginia. Since then thousands of patients in a growing number of states have been served. Virginia and Texas run multiple events each year.
Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins opened in February 1986 and offers the convenience of comprehensive care for adult patients. They provide routine dental check-ups and cleanings as well as cosmetic enhancements to improve the appearance of crooked, chipped, unevenly spaced, or stained teeth. Since 2001 Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins has also provided sedation dentistry for the fearful patient or for those patients who wish to combine multiple procedures in fewer appointments.

Drat! April 17-18 was last weekend–not this weekend. Wish I’d known; I would have notified some adults.
