The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s Miles River waterfront will be the backdrop for a free concert with the Mana Saxophone Quartet on Wednesday, June 3. Beginning at 6 p.m. at the Tolchester Beach Bandstand, the live performance is open to the public, with a suggested $5 donation made at the door. Beer, wine, and other refreshments will be available for purchase, with the public invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the performance. Carry-on alcohol is prohibited.
Hailed as “Saxophone Ambassadors” by Chamber Music Magazine, the Mana Quartet presents 21st-century repertoire and 20th-century tours de force masterworks on vintage instruments built to the 19th-century specifications of the saxophone’s inventor, Adolphe Sax.
On Wednesday, June 3, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum welcomes back the Mana Saxophone Quartet for a free evening performance. The quartet presents 21st-century repertoire and 20th-century tours de force masterworks on vintage instruments.
Repeatedly featured on NPR’s Performance Today, the D’Addario performing ensemble received the Coleman International Chamber Ensemble Competition’s grand prize in 2009, which immediately launched them into the professional chamber music arena. Since then, the group has taken on a growing list of residencies at major music festivals and an increasing presence on the chamber circuit.
The quartet is currently the National Music Festival’s resident chamber ensemble, where they recently performed Philip Glass’s Concerto for Saxophone Quartet with the festival orchestra. The National Music Festival at Washington College brings together world-class mentors and gifted apprentice musicians for two weeks each June, when these musicians present more than 35 concerts—ranging from solo recitals to large symphony orchestra performances with chorus—and 200 free open rehearsals.
