Come learn and have fun with ukulele celebrity Victoria Vox (www.VictoriaVox.com), whose “infectious pop-folk-jazz style” has landed her on the Jay Leno show and the cover of the Wall Street Journal. While in town for an arts-in-education residency with Tilghman Elementary School (ES) students, Vox & Carpe Diem Arts’ “Ukes on the Move” will offer ukulele classes for beginners and advanced beginners in our community.
The beginner class will meet at Brookletts Place in Easton on Monday, March 7 through Thursday, March 10, from 1:30 to 2:45 pm. On Friday, March 11, 5 to 6 pm at The Studio in St. Michaels (933 S. Talbot St.), there will be a final class, supper, and concert featuring Victoria Vox and her students from the week (details below). The fee is $100 for 5 classes (4 @ Brookletts, 1 @ Studio), which includes a 3-ring binder and a 30-page Ukes on the Move booklet.
Students may bring their own ukulele or purchase one. The cost of a beginner ukulele is $40 (add $10 for an electronic tuner), or a better quality uke can be purchased with a case and tuner for $75. These are discounted prices, thanks to bulk orders.
An advanced beginner ukulele workshop (for anyone who knows how to play C, F and G!) will be held on Tuesday, March 8, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at The Studio in St. Michaels. The cost is $10 for students and $25 for adults. These students are also invited to participate in the Friday, March 11 concert with Victoria Vox and other students.
The Tilghman ES ukulele students (from last year’s and this year’s 5th grade classes) are invited to perform 2-3 songs at the March 11th concert, along with other uke students who have been learning the same songs.
The schedule for the Victoria Vox concert and related events on Friday evening, March 11, at The Studio in St. Michaels is:
- 5 to 6 pm — Final Beginner Class — and Rehearsal for those who would like to play in concert with Victoria Vox at 7:30
- 6 to 7 pm — Pizza Supper
- 7:30 to 9 pm — Victoria Vox Concert — Enjoy Victoria’s solo talents — and hear her students of all ages perform 2-3 songs
The cost for rehearsal, supper, and concert is $15 for students and $35 for adults.
