Women golfers—from beginners to veterans—are welcome to pick up tips, enjoy lunch, and play in a 9-hole tournament at the Women & Girls Fund’s 5th Annual Golf Day at the Talbot Country Club on Tuesday, September 13.
“The clinic and 9-hole tournament are a really fun way to support the Women & Girls Fund,” said Alice Ryan, Women & Girls Fund founder and event co-chair with board member Emily Lynn. “We appreciate so much the generosity of the golf pros who help improve the players’ games. The golf day has turned into a wonderful event, with a great field of women and great sponsors.”
This year’s tournament proceeds will support the new state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary Clark Comprehensive Breast Center at UM Shore Regional Health. The board’s year of focusing on breast health culminates on October 13th when New York Times best selling author Kelly Corrigan brings her message of “Heart, Humor, and Hope” to the Tidewater Inn for a program and luncheon about surviving breast cancer, raising children, and caring for aging parents.
During the morning clinics, Talbot Country Club golf professionals will offer tips and techniques for putting, chipping, and driving. Joan Heiss, a skilled golfer and rules expert, will lead a session on the rules of the game.
“The rules clinic is my favorite part of the event,” added Ryan, who is co-chairing the event with board member Emily Lynn. “It never ceases to amaze me how you think you know the rules after playing for so long, but in a fun and informative way, she lets you know that you don’t.”
After lunch, the women will break into foursomes for a 9-hole “scramble” where all players will hit from their foursome’s “best ball” position, from tee to green. That way, even novices have a chance to contribute to the team’s cumulative low score.
The fee for the full day, including the clinic, luncheon, golf cart, and 9 holes of golf, is $150. The cost of lunch, a cart, and the 9-hole tournament is $100.
