Talbot Mentors’ annual Spring Brunch was sold out as about a hundred guests came together at Talbot Country Club on Sunday, May 4, to show their support for the organization. The buffet brunch and silent auction raised more than $23,000 for its program matching adult volunteers with Talbot County students in need of mentors.
Wells Fargo Advisors and Wilmington Trust were major sponsors of the event. Individual Spring Brunch Patrons included Blenda and Bruce Armistead, Merrilie Ford, John and Kathleen Franke, Martha Horner, Margot Miller, Gary Pearce, Irene Schmidt, and Albert and Eleanor Smith. Joan Dent provided piano accompaniment as guests placed bids on the donated auction items and enjoyed their gourmet brunch fare.
In brief remarks, Executive Director Paige Jernigan and Board President Jim Reed thanked all the sponsors and guests, noting that this year’s brunch was dedicated to the memory of Barbara Noyes, a board member who passed away earlier this year. Reed then shared some of his experiences as a mentor. “Mentoring is the best thing I’ve ever done,” he said, urging others to volunteer.
After recognizing the mentors and board members in attendance, Jernigan and Reed made a special presentation to Program Coordinator Jessika Best, who is leaving the staff after more than five years with the organization. In her thanks, Best said, “My advocacy will not end with my last day of employment,” emphasizing her commitment to spreading the word about Talbot Mentors’ mission. Encouraging the guests’ continued support, she added,
“I hope your advocacy will not end with this brunch.”
