Habitat Choptank Set to Dedicate Three New Homes

February 8, 2014 by Habitat for Humanity

Share

Three more hardworking families in Talbot County are achieving the dream of buying a home of their own through their partnership with Habitat for Humanity Choptank. The community is invited to a home dedication on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 9am to celebrate with these families the completion of their homes in the triplex at 233 Port Street. Following a brief program, there will be refreshments and the opportunity to tour the homes.

The infill development at 233 Port Street is Habitat Choptank’s second multi-family development. With the triplex complete and once drier weather prevails, work will begin on a duplex at the front of the Port Street lot. Construction volunteers build at this site on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Work can be scheduled on other days of the week by advance arrangement for visiting work groups, such as schools, churches, service organizations and businesses looking to give back to the community. Applications are being accepted for low-income home buyers who are interested in purchasing one of the other two Port Street homes.

Since 1992, Habitat Choptank has made home ownership possible for 59 families and currently partners with seven local families. These families are offered a “hand up” out of poverty housing. After completing “sweat equity” hours and pre-homeownership classes, these families will purchase homes that they helped construct and assume responsibility for repaying an interest-free Habitat mortgage. Applications for the home ownership program are accepted throughout the year. For more information about Habitat, to volunteer or make a donation, call 410-476-3204 or visit HYPERLINK “https://www.HabitatChoptank.org” www.HabitatChoptank.org.
