Saints Peter and Paul High School’s’ Lizzy Castro presented a $700 check this morning to Kathy Hanna, the Talbot Interfaith Shelter’s Development Director. On Monday, January 28, Saints Peter and Paul High School kicked off National Catholic Schools Week with a “fasting lunch”. Students, parents and friends of the school participated in a lunch, prepared by parents and volunteers, of modest soup, bread and water.
All present had an opportunity to donate monies to the Talbot Interfaith Shelter as they were served a free humble meal in lieu of a lunch they are accustomed to. $700 was raised and donated to TIS. This was a great opportunity for students to get a glimpse of what is like to have less.
This offering is in-line with SSPPHS’ philosophy as they strive to create an environment of Christian community by imparting to students the mandate of Christ to work for justice and peace in the world and to actively engage in service to others. The students said they were honored to participate in supporting TIS and grateful for the work this organization does in our community. Staff and students expressed commitment to continuing the SSPP mission by supporting TIS in upcoming efforts.
