Barbara Paca, Ph.D., art historian and landscape architect, will be the Brown Bag Lunch speaker for the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library on Monday, May 2, 2016 at noon.
Dr. Paca’s talk coincides with the Ruth Starr Rose(1887-1965) Revelations of African American Life in Maryland and the World, exhibition in Easton, April 30 through June 19. The artist, Ruth Starr Rose, was a white woman who grew up on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. Rose focused on dignified representations of daily life activities and spirituality of African Americans living in Copperville and Unionville. She painted portraits and recorded the histories of African American founding families, including descendants of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass. The exhibition is made available at no cost to the public, open daily, 11-4 in the Waterfowl Building.
