Maryland Public Schools will not open their doors to students until after Labor Day for the 2017 school year if Governor Larry Hogan gets his way. Josh Hicks at the Washington Post reports that Hogan made the executive order at a news conference in Ocean City on August 31.
Some school officials and Democratic legislative leaders have already taken Hogan to task on the order. They have questioned the legality of the move and are also raising concerns that the change will have a negative impact on student achievement.
