The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra’s opening concert on October 11, 2012, “A Romantic Mood” played to an enthusiastic crowd of music lovers who thrilled to the performances of Weber, Haydn and Schumann given by this ever more poplar orchestra and its dynamic conductor, Julien Benichou. Joining them was Dariusz Skoraczewski, principal cellist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra playing Haydn’s Cello Concerto #1. His beautiful sound and spellbinding technique were gripping while the finale: Schumann’s romantic Fourth Symphony, was so moving and lovely that the audience jumped to its feet at the end with applause and cries of “Bravo”.
You can experience the power and joy of this musical treasure at the next concert, “Holiday Joy” on Thursday, November 29th at 7:30PM, at Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington Street. Ushering in the holiday season with a program that includes both classical and traditional pieces: Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite #1, Wendel’s Chanukah Overture, Bizet’s Farandole from L’Arlesienne and other holiday favorites. The orchestra will feature dancers from VT Dance Company with award winning choreographer and Towson University faculty member, Vincent Thomas and Jessica Bachicha, the talented soprano with degrees from U. New Mexico and the New England Conservatory as well as several recordings will sing. Young musicians and students will especially appreciate the intimate setting, acoustics that make each instrumental group easy to hear, and the varied program with the orchestra accompanying dancers and a skilled soprano. It will be a treat for the entire family.
