Award winning Advertising and Editorial Photographer Joe Edelman will speak at the Tidewater Camera Club meeting on Monday, September 12th, 2016 from 7 to 9 PM in the Talbot County Community Center’s Wye Oak Room. Joe states that his presentation, entitled “The Simple Approach to Portraits that Flatter”, is not your parents’ portrait class. During his talk, he will describe his “KISS IT” (Keep it simple, stupid) techniques to create flattering with simple lighting and posing techniques. Joe will cover everything from camera and lens selection, depth of field, camera angles, composition, posing, lighting, backgrounds, and more. His talk will also include a demonstration using a model and real-time video projected for the audience so that they can see these simple techniques through the camera lens. The public is invited to attend.
Besides being an award winning advertising and editorial photographer, Joe Edelman is also an author, educator, and model mentor. His primary photographic subject has been “beautiful people” and he is best known for his portraits of beautiful women. His career has spanned four decades. Joe started his career as a newspaper photojournalist. Later, Joe has focused on photographing all types of people for commercial clients as well as educating and mentoring young, talented photographers. He has received state and national awards for fashion photography and photo journalism in the categories of News, Feature, and Sports Photography.
Joe Edelman’s work has been published in magazines such as Maxim, Cosmopolitan, Get Fit, and Shape to name a few. He has been asked to complete assignments by The New York and Los Angeles Times and has worked for commercial advertising clients all over the United States.
Joe takes pride in sharing his photographic knowledge on his popular You Tube channel, https://www.youtube.com/PhotoJoeEdelman and he is a popular instructor and lecturer at camera clubs, photography events and workshops across the United States. He is also an adjunct professor teaching about “The Art of Seeing” at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA.
Additionally, Joe has been nationally recognized as an innovator in shaping models’ portfolios and careers, helping them to better market themselves. Joe is the author of a modeling advice website: ModelingTip.com which contains lots of advice for new and experienced models. It also includes a comprehensive online modeling agency directory. He acts as an expert source on this topic for TV, magazine and newspaper stories. His writings were also referenced in the books “America’s Next Top Model” by JE Bright and “Roadmap to Stardom” by Rif K Haffar.
