Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore (JAES) is offering distance learning resources to educators in Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties.
“We [Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore staff] are making ourselves as available as possible to help our schools,” said Jayme Hayes, President of Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore. “We knew that access to distance learning resources would be a challenge for many of our students. We saw that need, and are committing ourselves to filling it.”
To support the schools during their transition to distance learning, JAES is offering:
– Free, remote learning supplemental resources with a focus on financial literacy, understanding our economy, career choices, and more
– Scheduled online training sessions to assist teachers and JAES volunteers in the delivery of distance learning material
– Downloadable family lesson plans and videos that allow parents to engage and learn along with their students
– Access to Junior Achievement apps for middle and high school students that focus on college and career planning and budgeting and savings.
– Access to printable resources to be distributed to students and families with limited access to 1:1 devices and internet service
JAES programs are focused on work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. “We believe every student has the ability to succeed,” said Hayes. “Our programs provide our students hands-on learning opportunities with relevant life skills, like savings, career success, and understanding our economy. Now, more than ever, these learning opportunities are vital. Our goal is to prepare our students today, and inspire them to aim for a better tomorrow.”
To continue with providing these vital learning opportunities, JAES is currently looking for local business leaders to participate in their virtual Career Speaker Series. The series will highlight a variety of careers, giving insight on the daily tasks, the education, and skill requirements for that job.
