Bernadette Bowman, Director of Kent County Tourism and Economic Development, reported today to the Chestertown Spy that Kent County had the largest percentage increase in overall tourism dollars in Maryland in the last fiscal year. According to data using Maryland sales tax tourism-related codes created for the Maryland Comptroller, which includes lodging, restaurants, general merchandise, automobile-bus-truck rentals, and recreation-amusement venue revenue, Kent County rose by over 26% in one year.
The report highlights include:
- Kent County realized a 26.1% increase in tourism codes in FY12. Maryland saw an 8.2% increase in the same tax codes for the same period
- Kent County’s adjusted tourism sales tax revenues rose to $888,454 in FY12 from $704,309 in FY11
- Kent County adjusted tourism code – restaurant sales tax revenues rose to $503,980 in FY12 from $430,895 in FY11, a 17% increase
- Kent County adjusted tourism code -lodging sales tax revenues rose to $349,601 in FY12 from $237,913 in FY11, a 46.9% increase
