In her recent letter to the editor, Holly Wright is spot on in her assertion that only one candidate in the recent Easton elections — Al Silverstein — fully focused on the critical need for action to address a serious shortage of medical care providers in our community and the lack of timely progress on building a new state of the art regional hospital. As she observed, Al has the kind of savvy leadership required to pursue negotiations with the University of Maryland and key decision makers in Annapolis to jump start progress on a new hospital. Holly also noted that Al has unrivaled experience in another jurisdiction in successfully addressing the problem of medical care provider shortages.
One can hope our new mayor will capitalize on Al’s experience, expertise, connections in Annapolis, and his passion for public service by helping to ensure he has a major role going forward in addressing these issues. With all the challenges and opportunities in Easton, both issues are truly matters of life and death for all our citizens.

I am not a resident of Easton; however, I have admired Megan Cook’s years of service to the Town of Easton. She will be a very successful mayor. With her extensive medical training and experience, I believe as mayor she will put together a team to work with all of the stakeholders to address the challenges in bringing the new hospital to fruition.

I believe that, as this issue is as critical as Ms. Sauer describes, it’s vital that Al Silverstein runs for the at-large seat for the Talbot Town Council. He is the most experienced leader that can address these issues moving forward. The election is typically held in November and there is little time to lose. Let’s get behind Mr. Silverstein!

Just guessing here but I’d wager that Al Silverstein isn’t the only person in Easton and Talbot County government who understands and is capable of dealing with the health care and other important issues in this community today. In any event, he lost the election, and some folks need to accept that and get over it. Megan Cook is the one who will be managing things, having clearly demonstrated the ability to do so.
So please, give her the opportunity to get the job done, and give Al Silverstein a well-deserved rest.
Or, just keep writing letters about Al Silverstein until the next election.

I assure you, everyone recognizes the medical issues here on the eastern shore. If the market allows, our “for profit” health care system will adequately provide. If not, perhaps those standing in the way of growth will change their tune. You cannot have first class health care based on a “for profit” system in a conservative area that is objective to growth.
