“Doing Nothing” on important matters has been raised to an art form by the current set of town commissioners here in little old St. Michaels. These ‘Artful Dodgers’ have managed to do practically nothing at all about anything of importance here for months! You only need to look at the events of last week for proof.
These masters of mistakes managed to do nothing long enough causing the loss of the town’s best asset, a man who constantly gave of himself to better our community, Police Chief Dennis. The Chief”s departure, effective next month, was announced by the town’s head gavel banger, commission president A. Michael Vlahovich, as he tried to read a press release to those attending the Wednesday night meeting. That was followed a bit later by a commission action to delay any decision on town ethics, no big surprise there!
But, let’s not be too harsh on these poor commissioners. After all, they are feverishly working on stuff right now! One, an admitted part time resident of Delaware, wants each commissioner to have their own microphone and a new recorder for town meetings. Another wants to build a used car showroom to revitalize the town. A third is trying to put a grant program in place that he said he could use when he is no longer a commissioner. And another is still trying to find the time to “study” the issues. But none of these folks seem to want to focus on or vote for town safety!

Pete and Mary Gregorio says
We are very sorry to hear that Chief Dennis is leaving. He has indeed been a respected leader in the community.
Walda DuPriest-Brandt says
Mr. Estrella’s cynical and insulting comments about the Commissioners of St. Michaels certainly reflect today’s political climate. However, in the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that his partner lost the race for re-election to the commission and hence his view may be biased in that regard. While he obviously respects Chief Miguel Dennis, the chief did resign. Perhaps Mr. Estrella is influenced by the fact that he is the landlord of Chief Dennis.
Any residents of St. Michaels who have questions, should attend a COSM meeting and decide for themselves.
Barbara Svenson says
I am very surprised that you, The Talbot Spy, decided to run a piece that does not represent “but remember to be kind.” Mr. Estrella’s article is not factual and is rude and disparaging to those individuals who are trying to make a positive difference representing the town of St Michaels. The individuals that Mr. Estrella referenced are very hard-working, competent individuals who are a “breath of fresh air” in this town. The citizens in this town should strive to be respectful and “kind” to one another even when their they may have different points of view or agendas. It would be a sign of maturity to conduct oneself and others with dignity and respect. Publishing an article like this rewards an individual for mean-spirited behavior.
