As the Hog Neck Ladies Wednesday Executive League celebrated the year with a championship tournament and luncheon, we paused to express our appreciation for the current administration and maintenance of the club and course. We have had an extraordinary year under the leadership of Rich Setter and his team. Our community is very fortunate to have such an amazing public golf course.
First of all, we all sense a difference in our Hog Neck staff and we think this is set by the team leader, Rich Setter. There is nothing that Rich doesn’t feel he can’t do. He is out there teaching, running the cash registers in the pro shop, providing personal-psychological services for those of us who have suffered mental injury from a tough round, and providing professional advice in the form of lessons and club selection. He is often, by the way, seen picking up trash, blowing leaves and debris off the cafe patio and paths, and picking up and returning to home base the driving range baskets. There is nothing this guy is unwilling to do and this is what sets the tone for both the staff and the membership out at Hog Neck.
The people who maintain the course are amazing. They have had too much rain, not enough rain, trees down, and multiple other weather and geological related issues, but they have managed to keep the impact to a minimal to us the players. The management of both courses has been amazing under always tough circumstances.
Starters, pro shop managers and clerks, bag helpers, groundskeepers, etc. have all been respectful, fun, and efficient. Playing at Hog Neck in a league feels like being a member of a private club. People greet you by name, try to find a way to help you, smile, chat, and help you start your round in a good mood and optimistic that this will be the day!
When we finish our rounds we begin to see the junior golfers arrive and oh my, what an exciting scene it is with instruction going on at the driving range, putting green and chipping green before watching these future players head out on the course with their mentors and instructors extraordinaire. The members of our league really enjoy seeing these youngsters out there and are amazed at the level of play they are achieving. They are the future of our sport.
Some of us get out there in the afternoons and weekends when we see families, teenagers, and older adults exploring the sport for the first time, and veterans, and seniors and super seniors testing their limits. We often look around and see all holes filled with players on both courses and it brings happiness that so many are engaged in this healthy and happy activity.
Thank you to Hog Neck’s Rich Setter and his team for making this possible in our community.

What a nice note from the ladies golf league. I concur with everything they have said. I have had the privilege of playing in the mens senior league for the past 2 years.
Steve Strobeck has been running this league for many years. This organization has provided so much for this county and run a first class show for all of Talbot County’s visitors who play here. There’s a reason why so many out of county people come to Hog Neck Golf Course.
Rich Setter and his group run a first class operation and you are made to feel welcome every time you visit. This is not always the procedure at a public golf course.
Not only is Talbot County fortunate to have this wonderful golf course, we are fortunate to have this wonderful team to run it!!

If I could write my comments as well as the ladies league did, I would be pleased. Rich and Owen make the experience I enjoy at Hog Neck just about as good as it gets. We are lucky to have them in Talbot County.
