Silver Linings of Talbot County has announced that it plans to repeat last year’s efforts of giving a strand of pearls to every female graduate of Easton and St. Michaels high schools.
Aida Leisure, the owner of Silver Linings, was pleased with the response surrounding her inaugural efforts last year of giving approximately 170 freshwater pearl necklaces to the female graduates. “Seeing the girls’ reactions is so gratifying,” she says. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do it again this year.”
Leisure hand selected over 200 strands of unstrung fresh water pearls that will be used to make the necklaces that are valued at $75 each and take about an hour each to string by hand.
A pearl necklace is one of the most timeless, versatile pieces of jewelry available. It is a long-standing tradition that a young woman is presented with a strand of pearls as her first piece of fine jewelry, and Leisure hopes to carry on this tradition in Talbot County.
“Pearls are timeless and elegant,” says Leisure. “I think every girl should own her own strand.”
The seniors will receive their gifts during graduation ceremonies in the spring. St. Michaels High School’s graduation ceremony will take place on May 30, with Easton High School’s to follow on May 31.
