Does “None” best represent your religious affiliation in a list of survey options? Are you “Done” with organized religion? Gregory L. Powell, Dean of Trinity Cathedral on Goldsborough Street, is hoping to start a dialogue with people who resonate with “spiritually curious—but institutionally suspicious.” Powell brings to the conversation a sober awareness of the limits of institutionalized religion as well as a belief system that stretches beyond Christianity.
Powell notes, “I’m a priest, so naturally people will read this invite as a veiled attempt to get them to church. It is not. Rather, the invite is borne of my desire to better understand how people outside the church cultivate the interior spaces of heart, navigate the landscape of spirituality larger than Christianity, while spending time with people whose worldview is not so shaped by the Church—no easy thing for a priest.”
Powell will be near the tennis courts in Idlewild Park in Easton on Saturday, May 22nd at 4 p.m. Look for the “Easton Nones & Dones” sign.
