Londonderry’s culinary team has partnered with a Maryland creamery to deliver fresh milk to residents and to Londonderry’s kitchen as part of the community’s promotion of wellness and proper nutrition on campus to support healthy aging.
Every Monday an order is placed with South Mountain Creamery in Middletown, Maryland, and by Thursday, cows have been milked, the milk has been processed and then delivered to Londonderry. The milk is served to residents and also used in preparation of meals and baked goods.
Under the leadership of Londonderry’s Director of Dining, Chelsea Coombs, Londonderry has made a commitment to educating residents about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy and balanced eating over the past several years. Coombs’ mantra, “if you eat well, you feel well,” guides all aspects of the culinary operations of the community.
“Adding fresh milk to our offerings is a natural extension of our goal of making more fresh and seasonal ingredients available on campus,” said Chelsea Coombs, Londonderry’s Director of Dining. “We enjoy great partnerships with local farmers to supply our produce and protein and have loved working with South Mountain Creamery. I know our residents have already been able to taste the difference!”
