“Our thoughts begin as images. These images influence how we negotiate critical issues of our lives,” so begins George Merrill’s introduction to his view of how photographic images can point us beyond the limits of our contingent world to the deeper region where life’s significance and meaning are found, that is, in our spiritual awareness. His presentation, “Photography as Spiritual Practice” is a free public talk and will be held on Thursday, July 31, at the St. Michaels Library from 7-8 pm.
George’s photographs have been exhibited in the Governor’s Mansion in Annapolis; in New York City; The Maryknoll Center, New York State; and at the Academy Art Museum in Easton. He is the author of Reflections: Psychological and Spiritual Images of the Heart, andThe Bay of the Mother of God: A Yankee Discovers the Chesapeake Bay, both books of essays with photographs. George’s essays are aired bi-weekly on Delmarva Radio. Professionally, he is an Episcopal Priest and psychotherapist, and lives in St. Michaels with his wife, Jo.
The St. Michaels Art League, assisted by a grant from AT&T and support of the Talbot County Arts Council, is presenting ARTfest, “100 Days of Art” during the summer of 2014.
