Trappe’s annual Nace’s Day Celebration and Parade will be held on November 4, 2023. This day honors Nathaniel “Nace” Hopkins, a hometown hero. Formerly enslaved, Nace was born around 1830, he was a Union Veteran in the Civil War who returned to Trappe. Nace was instrumental in the building of the first “colored schoolhouse” and in obtaining the permission to build a county road to Money Make Rd.
Nace was a founding member of Scotts United Methodist Church and he helped establish the celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation. His influence on the African-American community is felt to this day, and honored with a day long celebration.
This year marks our annual 156th Nace Hopkins Day celebration with a 10:00 am service at Scotts; (streaming live on Facebook: Scotts United Methodist Church Trappe). This will be followed by a parade at 1:00 pm on Main Street in Trappe, MD. Come on out for fellowship, food, and fun for everyone!!! For more details, please call 410-476-3980.

The cars, trucks, and the marching bands. You could almost reach out and touch their hands.
The food oysters, fish, and crabcakes were the best. Then there was the morning service with so many guests.
