Nick Andes, Wood Sculptor Exhibits at A.M. Gravely Gallery

July 26, 2017 by Spy Desk

Nick Andes, resident of St. Michaels, will exhibit his wood sculpture at the A.M. Gravely Gallery, 408 S. Talbot Street, St. Michaels during the month of August.

Having retired from a career in the magazine publishing industry in New York, Nick became interested in heads and faces, the differences, and the extremes of features from one person to the next. He wanted to create something three dimensional and sculpting make sense. Woodworking was a fascination for Nick since he worked in his dad’s workshop as a kid, sawing and drilling.

Most of the heads are whimsical, some teasing. They are each caricatures, some of real people, a few composites of no one in particular. Nick uses all types of wood and each kind brings something unique to the end sculpture. The color of the wood, texture of grain, unique irregularities, and bark all add to the overall look.

The A.M. Gravely Gallery is open Friday to Monday, 10am to 6pm. For more information call 410/745-5059 or email [email protected].
