Ouvert – A new art museum, art gallery and cultural gift store opens in St. Michaels Saturday, December 6th, 2014. Located in the heart of historic waterfront Saint Michaels at 207 Talbot Street, the new hub offers the finest of contemporary art including multi-media, sculpture, mosaic, jewelry, pottery, photography and paintings.
Ouvert was conceived by artists Mike Campbell, Jennifer Wagner and Deena Kilmon to exhibit contemporary works not found anywhere else. “We are excited to exhibit an eclectic mix of contemporary and folk art, from locally recognized to nationally recognized artists!” explains Wagner. They plan to keep the gallery “alive” with art events such as workshops, art discussions and interactive art experiences.
Studio Space is available on the second floor where artists can work, teach and sell their artwork. Wagner envisions an outdoor sculpture garden for the warmer months.
The list of showcased artists for the month of December includes Donna Tolbert-Anderson of Capturing Nature’s Images Photography, Dawn Malosh’s Gargoyle Bells, Erin Fluharty’s Photographs on Wood and Metal, Glasswork and Fairy Houses by Lisa Skibenes and Joanne Gelles, Metal Sculpture by Talbot Metal Crafters, Woven Baskets by Jane Tolar, Collage and Melted Wax and Crayon Paintings by Victor Abarca, Works by Illustrator Ryan Jacobson and Jewelry by Tide Together Jewelry and Gifts. The Zenith Gallery of Washington, DC will be exhibiting work by various artists in exciting mediums as well.
Deena Kilmon’s assemblages will be on exhibit as will Campbell’s driftwood sculptures and Wagner’s award winning mosaics.
The Grand Opening on December 6th joins a favorite Saint Michaels event entitled “Midnight Madness.” Ouvert’s doors open at 12:00pm and include raw oysters, wine and live music until midnight. During the event meet the artists and buy local, one of a kind, handmade gifts! The St. Michaels Middle/High School cast of Anything Goes will be singing throughout the night.
