Lani Browning, award-winning Eastern Shore artist, brings a one-woman show – ” Over The Garden Wall ” – to Easton’s South Street Art Gallery in June. Meet the artist during an opening reception during Easton’s First Friday Gallery Walk on June 5th from 5-8 pm. The exhibit will run through the end of June.
The exhibit will feature new works, some focusing on Eastern Shore garden scenes and some focusing on Eastern Shore landscapes. The exhibit title, “Over The Garden Wall ” suggests that the viewer can peek over the wall into a garden, or look beyond the garden wall into the greater landscape.
Lani Browning, an award winning plein air oil painter for more than twenty-five years, is known for her distinctive skill with colors and the soft tonalism of her paintings. Her travels around the country and abroad have contributed to her focus on capturing the beauty of landscapes. Now living on Maryland’s Eastern Shore she is inspired by the ever changing light of the sky, the rich farmlands and the varied waterways.
“The beauty and peacefulness of the Eastern Shore inspires me”, says Browning. “My two passions:painting and gardening have come together in this collection of works. It is the greatest challenge for me to try and capture the spirit and feel of this land. Whether it is the humble butterfly bush, the freshly plowed field at sunrise, or the light catching the first bloom of a clematis blossom, I feel drawn to try and share that emotional response through my art.”
As a juried member and archivist of the historic 100 year old Washington Society of Landscape Painters Lani has been involved in exhibitions that partnered with The Nature Conservancy and The Chesapeake Bay Foundation to paint designated sanctuaries that have been established to preserve rare and endangered species and ecosystems in the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2005, she was one of ten plein air painters invited to paint at the Forbes family Chateau de Balleroy in Normandy France, with the exhibit “Normandie en Plein Air” at The Forbes Gallery, NYC, NY. She has also been a juried artist in the popular “Paint Annapolis” and “Plein Air Easton” competitions.
In 2014, Lani’s work was published in Gary Pendleton’s book “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic”.
She is a juried member of Oil Painters of America, The Salmagundi Club, and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters.
