Back by popular demand, the second-annual Piga-Figa-Licious will be held Monday, September 3, from noon to 3pm on the grounds of Holy Trinity Church in Oxford, MD.
Attendees will once again find themselves in “hog heaven” enjoying an authentic pig roast paired with fine fig fixings. In addition to fabulous food: DJ Eric “Groundhog” Higgins will be spinning his signature sounds for all ages; a silent auction with unique items and special services; and multiple raffles of all sorts of fun prizes. Last year’s prizes ran the gamut from homemade cakes and international vacations to hard, cold cash. What will 2012 bring?
A nod to the traditions and history of Oxford, Piga-Figa-Licious is a fundraiser to the institution that preserves both, Oxford Museum. For nearly 50 years, the Museum has been a center of information and education serving residents and others who seek local historical and genealogical information. The money raised will go towards the non-profit’s mortgage.
Oxford Museum, President Jan Mroczek said, “Last year’s event seemed to fill a niche in the community. After the long Labor Day weekend, it was a time to relax in a beautiful waterfront setting with great food and fun people. Please join us for this affordable, all-you-can-eat family gathering that benefits our very special museum.”
Why Pigs? Oxford’s first town ordinance, passed in 1863, was an ordinance to prevent swine from running in the streets of the town. The fine was 50 cents for each swine “running at large.” In 1890, ordinance No. 12 passed prohibiting the raising of hogs within the town limits.
Why Figs? Every year, Oxford gardens are flush with figs. The abundance of the fruit, the variety of recipes and the ability to compliment the pig make it the first choice in the foodie festival.
Tickets are $25.00 per person before September 1 and $35.00 after or at the door. Children 10 and under will be admitted at half-price. Ticket includes all you can eat pork, fig dishes and other sides (barbeque chicken will also be served) and choice of nonalcoholic beverage (a cash bar featuring beer and wine will be available).
Tickets are available for purchase at Oxford Museum and Pope’s Tavern at The Oxford Inn and by calling 410-226-0191.
