On Wednesday, October 18, 2012 at about 3:15pm, Easton Police received a report that a Boa-Constrictor was sunbathing on the bridge along the Rails to Trails. The bridge is constructed of large creosote beams and was formally used by the local railroad company. When police arrived the snake was missing from the area where it was described to be. Of the officers that responded, only a few were “eager” enough (and willing) to crawl close along the bridge to look in areas where this snake could hide.
Officers eventually located the snake in a partially hollowed portion of the bridge. Again after identifying two officers still willing to extract the snake, Lt. Mark Hrobar and Pfc. Trams were able to corral the snake into a metal trash can.
The snake was later properly identified as a Ball Python and estimated to be approximately 5-6 years of age. The snake was about 4 feet in length.
A local Veterinarian, Chad Hutchison of Community Animal Hospital, in Easton, agreed to take and provide care for the snake. This is not his first reptile.
Police suspect that the snake either escaped or was released by a former owner. Lt. Mark Hrobar stated that the snake was cold and suspected it would not have survived much longer in the wild. The attached photo shows Lt. Hrobar holding the snake.
