ReStore Raises Over $330,000 Since 2010 for Habitat Choptank

If you have ever shopped at the Restore in Easton, you’ve helped raise more than $330,000 to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity Choptank. Last Saturday morning, at its annual Spring Open House, ReStore Manager Lee Weldon announced that, since it opened in November of 2010, Habitat’s retail outlet has contributed $331,230.28 to Habitat Choptank.

“It’s wonderful what the community has made possible with the ReStore,” says Nancy Andrew, Executive Director of Habitat Choptank. “It’s the donors, volunteers and customers who have made the store such a success.”

Andrew went on to place the importance of the funds raised by the ReStore in perspective. “The proceeds from the ReStore help to cover about 20 percent of our program and operating costs per year,” she said. “That is an important contribution to helping to fund our mission in Talbot and Dorchester Counties.”

Every year since it opened, ReStore has netted more money to fund Habitat Choptank’s mission.

“The ReStore continues to grow at a pace we never imagined” says Weldon. “And it’s all a result of the communities we serve. The strong material donations, the great network of volunteers, and of course, our shoppers, all make this possible.”

Shoppers and donors alike benefit from the ReStore. Donors find it gratifying to know that ReStore will find new homes for their gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies, and that everything donated to the ReStore and resold is diverted from the landfill. ReStore’s customers like saving money on a wide variety of brand new and gently used merchandise.

On March 29, Habitat ReStore staff and volunteers presented a check for $331,230.28, representing money raised for Habitat Choptank since the ReStore opened in November 2010.
