Several University of Maryland Shore Regional Health team members will be “hanging around” Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, and for a good cause.
Representing UM Shore Regional Health in the fifth annual, two-day fundraising event, “Rappel for Kidney Health,” on June 6-7, the group will rappel off the 32nd floor of the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, the event benefits kidney health awareness and services provided to kidney patients and their families.
The Eastern Shore Kidney Health Team (which is the UM Shore Regional Health group) includes the health care network’s president and CEO, Ken Kozel, plus team captain Trish Rosenberry, manager of outpatient services; Jessica Fluharty, neuroscience specialist; Wendy Greenwood, transplant coordinator; Jennifer King, registered nurse; and Michael Varnish, radiology technician. Rappelling as VIPs on the team will be Dr. David Leeser, chief of kidney and pancreas transplantation for University of Maryland Medical Center, and Dr. Eugene Schweitzer, transplant surgeon with UMMC. Guest team members are Shakiyla Gordon and Nicole Taylor-West, dialysis technicians at Fresenius Medical Care in Seaford; and other guests Paula Campbell, Sandi Davis, Bill Galdi and Lenox Trams.
Each participant in the two-day “Rappel for Kidney Health” is expected to raise $1,000 or more for the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland. As of May 8, the Eastern Shore Kidney Health Team had raised the highest dollar amount of the 12 teams participating in the upcoming event.
A fundraiser for the UM SRH team will be held the evening of May 17. The event is a dance at Grasonville VFW, 203 VFW Avenue in Grasonville. Featuring the band Mike Hines and the Look, the event includes a cash bar, silent auction, 50-50 raffle and a money wheel. Tickets are $20 per person/$30 per couple by advance sale. For tickets, contact Trish Rosenberry at 410-822-1000, ext. 5067.
Anyone interested in supporting the team may donate online at www.kidneymd.org (select “Rappel for Kidney Health” and follow instructions to make a general donation or sponsor a specific team or individual).
