Last winter, Luke Phipps and Kevin Barret, co-chairs of the 2017 St. Michaels Concours d’Elegance, sat down with the Spy to talk about their plans for the 11th year of this extraordinary automobile extravaganza in September. Both Luke and Kevin had a couple of challenges ahead of them.
The first was a particular anxiety of taking on their new positions. The Concours events has benefited from a decade of strong leadership, particularly through the work of the event’s co-founder, George Walsh, and many other local car enthusiasts, and now Luke and Kevin were passed the baton with many of those original volunteers retiring.
The second was how to work in close collaboration with the Inn at Perry Cabin and the Chesapeake Maritime Museum to fully take advantage of both institutions’ offer to help.
And finally, how to offer the best variety of antique cars.
In their short Spy interview from January, Luke and Kevin talk about their plans for what they are calling an “old-fashioned garden party” with a huge selection of historical classics, rare muscle cars, and an exceptional collection of vintage “Woody” wagons.
This video is approximately two minutes in length. For more information about the St. Michaels Concours d’Elegance please go here.
