Welcome to “Mastering Acrylics – a Techniques Primer” presented by Lynne Johnson Horvath, a three hour workshop on Monday, October 20, 2014, from noon to 3:00 p.m. Class size will be limited to 10 participants.
Lynne plans to include watercolorists, oil painters and other artists of any level who would like to paint beautifully in acrylics but are frustrated and lacking a few details about how to “game” this wonderful artistic mid-20th century invention. Lynne will show students about this miracle medium which has developed and improved over the last 15 years into a great choice for an artist’s painting future, with exciting varieties of finishes available to the artist who opts to explore this medium.
The class will be a type of hybrid: students will experience fun exercises to illustrate the good and the bad of painting in acrylics.
The class will concentrate on how to be the master, not the slave, of getting a really good piece of artwork. Lynne plans to share truths about the foibles of really fast, plein air work, the constant need for plenty of cleanup materials, bad choices of paints, grounds and pigments, mediums and products and other sideline details that should be learned so that the artist can pick and choose from different experiences. Lynne plans a fun workshop, touching on experimental work with mixed media and concentrating on using, mixing, readying, learning about and finishing the paint and each medium itself. Lynne’s motto: the sky’s the limit!
