In preparation for the Christmas in St. Michaels Gingerbread House competition in December, a demonstration of techniques used in making a gingerbread house will be given at the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. Experienced bakers and past participants in gingerbread house competitions will conduct the session. Recipes, a listing of helpful hints as well as a flyer explaining contest categories, prizes and rules will be distributed. In addition, the library will feature a display of books on gingerbread structures. Attendance at the Oct. 11th demonstration is free of charge and a door prize will be given.
The Gingerbread House competition is one of the many events of the annual Christmas in St. Michaels weekend. Cash prizes are awarded in a variety of categories in the competition. Entries may be brought to the Woman’s Club of St. Michael’s, 401 St. Mary’s Square in St. Michaels from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, with judging taking place the following day, Sunday, Dec. 7. Also on Dec. 7, a Gingerbread House preview cocktail party will be held. The houses will be on display, winners will be announced and most houses will be for sale via a silent auction. All houses entered in the competition will be on display to the general public free of charge at the Woman’s Club on Friday, Dec. 12, from noon to 3 p.m.; on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All monies raised from the sale of the gingerbread houses go to support numerous community beneficiaries of Christmas in St. Michaels.
