Professor Dale Glenwood Green, Assistant Professor at Morgan State University will be the guest speaker for that Annual Meeting of the St. Michaels Museum. He will speak on “The Hill in Easton” on March 23 from 2-4 pm at St. Michaels Library on Fremont Street.
Green, who specializes in architecture and historic preservation, was studying historic churches on the Eastern Shore when Easton resident Carlene Phoenix asked him to study the history of The Hill, a neighborhood in South East Easton which boarders E. Dover St., South, Harrison and Talbot Street to Easton’s Rails to Trails. Extensive research indicates that The Hill may be the oldest free African American neighborhood in America. The title is currently held in the Treme neighborhood in New Orleans, Louisiana.
