The St. Michaels Winery is moving…….about one half block away from their present location on Marengo St. into the Old Sewing Factory. With Talbot St. frontage, and next to the Eastern Shore Brewery and Gina’s, this location is shaping up to be a new hotspot in St. Michaels.
The opening date is set for Easter weekend, and Winery staff are hard at work preparing the new space, and moving everything out, while still serving wines to tasting customers at their old location.
“We’re so excited, it’s just like Christmas morning!” said wine pouring staff Jane Cassel. “Our new space is bigger, and we’ll have so much more room for tastings.” Tasting room Manager Courtney Gorman and Jesse Applegarth, Winery employee since 2006, manhandled a pallet filled with cases of wine, and laughing, pushed it down Marengo St., proving that happy employees will do anything.

The new space is handsome. Sharing half the front of the Old Sewing Factory with a home décor shop, visitors will enter the building into a hallway, with the Winery on their right, and the retail shop Ophiuroidea on the left. The new space will include a laboratory and production space for the tasting operation.
According to Gorman, Tasting Room Manager, the present location was a perfect place to start the business 7 years ago. “We’ve loved it here”, she said. “When we started, we had five different wines. Now we have 18 wines that are being sold in over 450 stores in Maryland, and Delaware.”
Mark Emon, owner of the St. Michaels Winery, said that the move is “one giant step forward for our company. We’re moving the industrial part of the Winery – producing large scale for the wholesale market into an appropriately industrial setting, and expanding our tasting operation to accommodate larger crowds and events such as weddings. Our grand re-opening is set for April 7th and 8th; we’ll be introducing new wines and we’ll have lots of specials.”
