Talbot Arts is launching a new summer arts scholarship program. This new initiative expands the current summer arts scholarship program for Talbot County high school students to include students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.
These scholarships provide students with artistic promise an opportunity to participate in summer arts education programs to enhance their studies and experience. Talbot Arts is very committed to the spirit of these scholarships and understands that COVID-recovery and growing concerns about inflation may create a barrier to deserving students and their ability to participate in the arts.
Scholarships can be used for classes or private lessons, camps, workshops, and masterclasses. Eligible areas of study include animation, band, ceramics, dance, graphic design, filmmaking, music performance, songwriting, drawing, jewelry design, quilting, weaving and fiber arts, photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, theatre, voice, opera, or other areas of artistic interest.
Over the past two years, students applying for scholarships received one hundred percent funding for programs of their choice. Talbot County and the towns of Easton, St. Michaels, and Oxford provide the summer art scholarship funds. There is no specific dollar limit to individual scholarship requests. After reviewing the applications, Talbot Arts summer arts scholarships committee forwards their recommendations to the Talbot Arts Board for final approval.
Talbot Arts places a high priority on the scholarship program as it helps students stretch the boundaries of their skills and talents. Many scholarship opportunities are available for teens but there are limited opportunities for younger students. After receiving comments and suggestions from arts educators, parents, and artists, the Talbot Arts Board decided to also offer art scholarships for middle schoolers to support these young artists as well as older students.
“For art to remain a significant part of our community, we must pass it along to the younger generations,” said Joan Levy, Executive Director, Talbot Arts. “We are committed to providing financial support for programs where Talbot County students can learn, grow, and create.”
Talbot Arts accepts applications until May 30 or until they distribute all scholarship funds. Students and families who could benefit from these scholarships are encouraged to visit www.talbotarts.org to learn more about the scholarship program and the application process.
