The Talbot County Health Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Fahmi Fahmi, MD, as the county’s new Health Officer. Fahmi has been a dedicated leader in public health, previously serving as Deputy Medical Health Officer at the Talbot County Health Department and bringing decades of clinical experience and leadership to the position.
In this role, Fahmi will oversee public health initiatives, guide community health programs, and work to improve the well-being of Talbot County residents. He succeeds Maria Maguire, MD, who stepped down in October of 2024.
“I am committed to improving the health and well-being of all Talbot County residents and visitors by addressing healthcare shortages, expanding access, and promoting equity for all,” said Fahmi. “By enhancing services and removing barriers, I strive to create a healthier, more accessible community.”
Chuck Callahan, Talbot County Council President, welcomed Dr. Fahmi to his new role, stating, “We welcome Dr. Fahmi as the new Talbot County Health Officer and look forward to his leadership in advancing state and local priorities, including enhancing and streamlining customer service to better meet community and environmental health needs.”
TCHD looks forward to his leadership and ongoing collaboration with community partners to address the county’s health priorities.
The Talbot County Health Department promotes a healthy community by monitoring health status to identify community health needs, empowering and informing our residents and visitors about public health issues, implementing culturally sensitive programs to assure public health access, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, preparing for and responding to public health emergencies, and strengthening community partnerships.
