During May, 2012, the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office investigated 42 crimes, of which 24 were serious Part I offenses reportable to the FBI. Those reportable crimes consisted of 7 assaults, 4 commercial/residential breaking and enterings, and 13 thefts that qualified as serious reportable
offenses under this category. During the investigation of these crimes, property valued at $26,817 was stolen.
68 persons were arrested for a wide range of crimes, with 1 for breaking and entering, 3 for theft, 4 for assault, and the rest scattered among other crimes; including 8 narcotics arrests, 5 destruction of property incidents, and the rest involving other minor crimes. 3 of these criminal arrests involved juveniles. During May, 64 active arrest warrants were received and entered into a nationwide database. Of those, Deputies arrested persons on 30 warrants and filed 1 detainer for a person already incarcerated. 3 of the total warrants received were later recalled by the court. No extraditions were conducted during the month.
Deputies patrolled 26,663 miles in the county, and initiated traffic safety activities that resulted in 760 traffic stops of which 366 were citations. There were 10 DUI arrests during May; 2 of which were accident involved. There were a total of 17 reported traffic accidents; 13 of which qualified for formal investigation. 3 of these reportable accidents involved injury and 4 were hit and run. There were 1,063 citizen calls for police services during May. Deputies responded to five 911 hang-up calls and investigated 38 alarm calls; all of which were false.
During courthouse security operations, Deputies screened 2,557 persons who appeared for business in the courthouse complex. They further examined and screened 71 packages that were presented for inspection or delivered to the court offices. No weapons or contraband were discovered during this screening process. During court trials, 102 hours of court room security were provided.
Deputies certified as Federal Motor Carrier commercial vehicle inspectors performed 3 commercial vehicle stops and inspections searching for commercial driver license and vehicle safety issues. 5 total violations were noted during these inspections and citations with fines totaling $1,170 were issued.
3 civil citations were issued for a range of offenses in May. 14 evictions were processed for service, though only 9 were conducted. There were 26 formal contacts with registered sex offenders in Talbot County. All offenders were found to be in compliance. During May, 2 persons were identified and taken for emergency mental health evaluations through their contact with Deputies. 2 formal missing person cases were initiated and closed successfully. Deputies interceded in a number of domestic activities with 5 reported domestic assaults and the service of 9 peace orders and 17 protective orders.
